MRI STUDY OF THE LUMBAR SPINE Technique of Examination: - Sagittal TI & T2 WIs (Plates 1-2) - Axial T1 & T2 WIS (Plates 3-4) MRI Findings: Normal verterbal alignment. Normal dimensions of the lumbar bony spinal canal. Lumbar spondylotic changes manifested by reduced bright T2 signal of the lumbar discs with marginal anterior osteophytes and subchondral degenerative changes of their opposing end plates. L2-3 and L3-4 mild diffuse posterior disc bulges are seen abutting the theca, mildly encroashing upon medial extent of both exit foramina. L4-5 large caudally migrating posterior and right posterolateral disc herniation is seen indenting the theca, entrapping right L5 nerve root and encroaching upon right exit foramen L5-S1 posterior disc protrusion is seen indenting the theca, encroashing upon both exit foramina. Normal MR appearance of the conus medullaris and cauda equina roots. No paraspinal lesions.
