what are treament options ?
- fungal infection and treated by antifungal drugs such as clatrimazole orally
- moist gangrene with or without diabetic foot and is treated by antibiotics such as ceftriaxone and in some cases amputation of the infected area
signs and symptoms
- fungal infection causes the nails to go yellowish and easely dislodged from its place and also thickining of the nail and in aggrisive cases formation of blisters in the foot and bad odor
- in case of moist gangrene the smell is also bad and black or bluish discoloration with formation of blisters and pain raging from mild to severe pain to no pain at all in case on neuropathy
diagnosis
- skin biopsy to do microscopic exam to know the source of the infection ( fungal or bacterial
- past medical history of the patient
- CT ANGIOGRAPHY with contrast to check for arterial obstruction ( gangrene )
- CBC and ESR
