My husband is suffering from left foot / ankle ...
My husband is suffering from left foot / ankle edema for Almost 2 months now.He is a smoker with type 2 diabetic, severe Gout, high calcium , neuropathy (demyelination) most probably as a result of pre- diabetic & then diabetic and yet is usually not controlled (( 3 month Hb >7.5)) , colon disturbance, urinary tract / kidney stones formation, fatty liver , high lipid profile in addition to cervical & lumber discs.I know it’s too much but I just need to know why is his foot swelling as it wasn’t before . Thanks

We ve seen a lot. He is taking medicines for diabetes (janumet), reparil, calchecin , Crestor , and many on & off medicines for neuropathy like cimbulta, lyrica, vitamins B, D , NSAID, rowatinex , .,,,lately strong one for the gout , (( pls excuse my spelling especially for medicine named))

First let me thank you for ur answers which I wasn’t expecting at all .Actually there are a lot but the above is just s summery of what we v been thru for years .,I am v concerned abt his feet and despite the many investigations we’ve done , we cannot link all together?

Oedema is usually caused by:
- standing or sitting in the same position for too long
- eating too much salty food
- being overweight
- taking certain medicines such as some blood pressure medicines, contraceptive pills, antidepressants or steroids
- an injury such as a strain or sprain
- an insect bite or sting
- problems with your kidneys, liver, or heart
- a blood clot
- an infection
How to treat the problem ?
- lie down and use pillows to raise the swollen area when you can
- get some gentle exercise, like walking, to improve your blood flow
- wear wide comfortable shoes with a low heel and soft sole
- wash, dry and moisturise your feet to avoid infections
- You should be examined by your health care provider
- You should do kidney function test , US of kidney, liver function test and Echo of heart
