My 35 days old baby girl has severe jaundice which...

My 35 days old baby girl has severe jaundice which lasts till today.It started on the 2nd day of birth @ 5 ..then day 3 ..it raised to 10 ..day 4 ...11..after aweek and half it became 12.3 ...after a doc's prescription ..she undergoes formula dose (three times per day ..30 cm)...sooner after 2 weeks it becmae 9.5 .Then I stopped the formula ...surprisingly ,,nowadays it raised again to 11.What are the reasons for the raise? When will it disappear?How should I follow up?

Yes .,I checked another doc ,,who recommended the formula dise again .,but Im afraid its not the correct way to go through

What causes elevated billirubin in neonates?

1. The physiological jaundice which begins the second day and ends after four days at most and occurs as a result of liver immaturity

2. jaundice resulting from undernutrition, which usually occurs with the new moms with lack of experience in breastfeeding

3. jaundice that occurs because of breast milk

4. resulting from sepsis

5. jaundice resulting from broken red blood cells

6. Congenital thyroid diseases

7. Liver diseases

8. Genetic diseases such as criglar najar syndrome or Gilbert syndrome

9. Disease that increases the proportion of galactose in blood 

 

 

What is the treatment of neonatal jaundice

1. Depending on the level of billirubin and age of the child, it may need phototherapy, and may need to exchange the blood

2.and treat the cause of jaundice 

3. Improve the nutrition of the child and make sure to breastfeed well and at specific intervals provide his need

4. feeding the baby milk other than breast milk such as cow's milk

5. admit the patient to the hospital and giving it antibiotics in case of sepsis

6. Treating the thyroid

 

 

What are the symptoms associated with jaundice

1. Child activity is unusual

2. poor feeding

3. Yellowish skin color

4. High temperature

5. Spasms in the case of a very high billirubin rate

6. flacidity in the child's muscles

7.the last two are associated with kirnectures


What are the means to diagnose the cause of elevated billirubin

1. Clinical examination

2. measuring of blood billirubin level

3. CBC

4. blood group

5. Check thyroid hormone

6. blood culture

7. Liver biopsy
