Cases where ESR and lymophocytes raise?

• ESR and lymphocytes are raised in a case of infection.

• Could be some viral or atypical bacterial infection or a chronic inflammatory state
• Some common causes for elevated ESR are:
• Acute inflammation
• Severe or chronic infections (acute bacterial infections, tuberculosis etc.)
• Connective tissue diseases - systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), giant cell arteritis, systemic sclerosis etc.
• Cancer
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• ESR is a very non-specific indicator of the presence of disease

About D dimer?

• D-dimer is one of the protein fragments produced when a blood clot gets dissolved in the body.

• It is normally undetectable or detectable at a very low level unless the body is forming and breaking down blood clots.
• Then, its level in the blood can significantly rise
• D-dimer tests are used to help rule out the presence of an inappropriate blood clot (thrombus). Some of the conditions that the D-dimer test is used to help rule out include:
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
• Pulmonary embolism (PE)
• Stroke
• D-dimer level may be used to help diagnose disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and to monitor the effectiveness of DIC treatment.
