What is the accessory navicular bone?
The accessory navicular (os navicularum or os tibiale externum) is an extra bone or piece of cartilage located on the inner side of the foot just above the arch. It is incorporated within the posterior tibial tendon, which attaches in this area. An accessory navicular is congenital (present at birth).
What is the treatment of accessory navicular bone ?
1.Immobilization. Placing the foot in a cast or removable walking boot allows the affected area to rest and decreases the inflammation.2.Ice. To reduce swelling, a bag of ice covered with a thin towel is applied to the affected area.
3.Analgesic Medications like panadol
4.Physical therapy.
5.Orthotic devices.
6.Surgery
What is the surgery of the accessory navicular bone ?
A small incision is made in the instep of the foot over the accessory navicular. The accessory navicular is then detached from the posterior tibial tendon and removed from the foot. What do we recommend ?
There is no side effects for this condition if it bothers you alot then you can do the bone surgery and remove it and if there is pain you can take analgesics but there are no complications for this case ...We wish you all the best ,
