The active ingredient mefenamic acid slows down the production of prostaglandins, a hormone-like substance in the body that causes pain, fever and inflammatory responses such as swelling and redness of the skin. Ponstan is therefore commonly used to treat conditions in which painand inflammation play a role.PONSTAN is used to relieve the symptoms of period pain and treat heavy periods.PONSTAN containing mefenamic acid belongs to a group of medicines called Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (or NSAIDs). These medicines work by relieving pain and inflammation.

What are the side effects for Ponstan forte?

1.Disturbances of the gut such as indigestion, diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain
2.Ulceration or bleeding in the stomach or intestines
3.Drowsiness and light headedness
4.Skin reactions such as rashes or itching

How to take ponstan forte?

The usual dose of ponstan forte is 2 capsules (500 mg) three times daily with meals. Your doctor may recommend a different dose. This may depend on your age, your condition and whether or not you are taking any other medicines. Take ponstan exactly as your doctor has prescribed.
