What does irregular periods means?
1. Having irregular periods can mean a variation in the number of days you have your period or that your period arrives early, late or even skips a few months.
2. Most women will experience irregular bleeding at some point in their life. A period showing up unexpected or delayed does not always mean something serious is going on.
What are the causes of irregular-heavy period?
1. Eating disorders, anorexia nervosa or bulimia.
2. Excessive exercise.
3. Thyroid dysfunction.
4. Elevated levels of the hormone prolactin.
5. Hormonal birth control, birth control pills, injections, or implants.
6. Scarring within the uterine cavity, Asherman's syndrome.
7. Medications, such as those to treat epilepsy or mental health problems.
8. Polycystic ovary syndrome.
9. Uterine fibroids.
10. Endometrial polyps-benign overgrowth of the lining of the uterus.
11. Adenomyosis-the presence of uterine lining in the wall of the uterus.
What are the symptoms of heavy periods?
1. Soaking through one or more sanitary pads or tampons every hour for several consecutive hours.
2. Needing to use double sanitary protection to control your menstrual flow.
3. Needing to wake up to change sanitary protection during the night.
4. Bleeding for longer than a week.
5. Passing blood clots larger than a quarter.
6. Restricting daily activities due to heavy menstrual flow.
7. Symptoms of anemia, such as tiredness, fatigue or shortness of breath.
