Welcome! How can I help with your medical question?
I had retinal tear in my left eye 5 years ago due to detachment of vitreous gel from the retina. I had laser done around the tear to prevent retinal detachment. Scar tissue then built up on the macula causing distortion and loss of vision ( 6/9). I cannot read using my left eye. Unfortunately, my right eye is undergoing vitreous gel detachment now and is still on going. I am being monitored for fear of retinal tear which has not yet happened but my doctor noticed haemorrhage. Prior to my very recent right eye issue, I did not want to undergo vitrectomy to remove the scar tissue since my vision with both eyes was good enough. Now, I am concerned that if the same problem occurs to my right eye I would not be able to read and work normally. I now want to go ahead with surgery for my left eye, but the doctor says my vision would not improve because I had the scar tissue for almost five years (photo cells damaged for having been pulled for 5 years). Is it true that I would not benefit now from vitrectomy to remove the macular pucker in my left eye?
Have you seen a doctor about this yet? What medications are you taking?
I saw a retina specialist earlier today. I am 58 and pre-diabetic on 1000 mg of metformin daily
Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
No

Dear Customer
Welcome, and thank you for trusting us
Regarding your question,
retina of the eye and the macula are nervous tissue , now there is studies that look for how we can regenerate this type of tissue , but what we have now , that nervous tissue is unable to regenerate , or to divide and give more cell of same species , But there is some sort of benifit of the vitrectomy by this time , since there is a risk that the gel would wrinkle and pull the pucker causing further detachement , However there is risk from this surgery , because it might cause a room for aqoeus humour to accumulate causing cataract
Stay well.
