Welcome! How can I help with your medical question? How I can resolve my blood pressure going down...it’s 170/120. What is the best food I need to eat and drinks? Have you seen a doctor about this yet? What medications are you taking? Yea but they will not give me a medication..I’m worried coz my medical are clear already for travel but they hold my clearance. So I must to go back there to clear my blood pressure Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know? No

How can you reduce your blood pressure readings?

  1. eat a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, grains and low fat dairy products
  2. avoid foods rich in cholesterol and saturated fat
  3. avoid salty food and don't add salt (avoid sodium)
  4. potassium supplementation within the diet
  5. weight loss helps reduce blood pressure readings in obese and overweight people
  6. regular daily exercise, at least 30 minutes 5 days a week
  7. stop smoking
  8. avoid alcohol
  9. avoid drinking caffeine due to its raising effects of blood pressure
  10. relax and avoid stress triggers
  11. measure your blood pressure twice daily and ask about the proper method of measuring blood pressure to avoid false readings and artefacts
  12. rule out secondary causes of hypertension or keep them under medical control

What is the normal blood pressure reading?


the normal blood pressure according to the latest guidelines is under 120/80, and above 135/85 is hypertension

What are the secondary causes of hypertension?

  1. adrenal gland diseases
  2. renal problems
  3. coarctation of aorta
  4. thyroid gland dysfunction

  1. headache
  2. blurry vision
  3. nosebleeds
  4. shortness of breath

What are the risk factors for high blood pressure?

  1. age >65
  2. family history
  3. weight circumference greater than 40 inches in men and 35 inches in women
  4. obesity and overweight
  5. having other chronic diseases like diabetes or renal diseases
  6. lack of physical activity
  7. smoking
  8. increased sodium consumption (salty food) and little potassium
  9. stress
  10. alcohol
