Dear Customer
Welcome, and thank you for trusting us

What is the normal range for Gastrin hormone levels?

Many factors can affect your test results. They might also vary based on the lab and the reference ranges they use. In general, the normal range for gastrin levels is:
0-180pg/ml.

Why would you need this test?

You may need the test if you have symptoms like stomach pain, diarrhea, or peptic ulcers that keep coming back.
.Your doctor might also order a gastrin test if he is suspecting that you may have a gastrin-producing tumor

What are the causes of elevated Gastrin levels?

1. Your stomach is not producing enough gastric acid due to :H.pylori infection or atrophic gastritis.
2. you're taking acid-reducing medications, such as proton pump inhibitors.
3. Dudenal or Pancreatic cancers or Gastrin-producing tumors known as Gastrinomas.
4. Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.

What is Zollinger-Ellison syndrome?

A disease in which tumors cause the stomach to produce too much acid, resulting in peptic ulcers.
Symptoms include abdominal pain and diarrhea.
The syndrome is caused by a gastrinoma, a neuroendocrine tumor that secretes a hormone called gastrin. The tumor causes excessive production of gastric acid, which leads to the growth of gastric mucosa and proliferation of parietal and ECL cells.

What are the signs and symptoms of the syndrome?

The diagnosis is also suspected in patients who have severe ulceration of the stomach and small bowel, especially if they fail to respond to treatment.
  1. Chronic diarrhea, including steatorrhea (fatty stools).
  2. Pain in the esophagus, especially between and after meals at night.
  3. Nausea.
  4. Wheezing.
  5. Vomiting blood.
  6. Malnourishment.
  7. Loss of appetite.

What is the treatment of this syndrome?

Proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole and lansoprazole, and histamine H2-receptor antagonists (such as famotidine and ranitidine) are used to slow acid secretion.
Once gastric acid is suppressed, symptoms normally improve. Surgery to remove peptic ulcers or tumors might also be considered.

What we advise you?

We kindly advise you to take appointment with your Endocrinologist or Endocrine-Surgery specialist.
