Welcome! How can I help with your medical question? My mother is facing lung failure due metastatic cancer. Is there a procedure to remove carbon dioxide from body while having oxygen intake through artificial oxygen intake ? Have you seen a doctor about this yet? What medications are you taking? Admitted in hospital. Can’t remove oxygen mask for even 2 minutes Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know? Breast cancer surgery 4.5 yrs back. Now suffering from metastatic cancer. Can’t breathe and having continuous oxygen supply.

Dear Customer
Welcome, and thank you for trusting us
Regarding your question

Is there any treatment to remove high carbon dioxide from the body in respiratory failure ?

The first objective in the management of respiratory failure is to reverse and/or prevent tissue hypoxia. high CO2 unaccompanied by hypoxemia generally is well tolerated and probably is not a threat to organ function unless accompanied by severe acidosis. Many experts believe that high CO2 should be tolerated until the arterial blood pH falls below 7.2. Appropriate management of the underlying disease obviously is a KEY component in the management of respiratory failure.
Most patients with chronic respiratory failure can be treated at home with oxygen supplementation and/or ventilatory assist devices along with therapy for their underlying disease.
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) may be more effective than conventional management for patients with severe but potentially reversible respiratory failure.
Once the airway is secured, attention is turned toward correcting the underlying LOW O2, the most life-threatening facet of acute respiratory failure. The goal is to assure adequate oxygen delivery to tissues, generally achieved with an arterial oxygen tension (PaO2) of 60 mm Hg or an arterial oxygen saturation (SaO2) greater than 90%. Supplemental oxygen is administered via nasal prongs or face mask; however, in patients with severely low O2, intubation and mechanical ventilation are often required.
Coexistent high CO2 and respiratory acidosis may have to be addressed. This is done by correcting the underlying cause to make sure that ph is not less than 7.3
