I want to ask what will happened for a premature baby weighs 2kilos having a pelvic renal dilatation in his left side...what should I observed in this case
Have you seen a doctor about this yet? What medications are you taking?
Yes seen by pediatrician...only to wait for the next 2 weeks for ultrasound...no medication as of now
Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Both kidneys are average in length with left kidney measuring 3.7cm long with mild dilatationof its pelvicalyceal system and the pelvis measuring 7.6mm in dimension.the right kidney is also average in length measuring 3.8cm long and there is only subtle fullness of its pelvis measuring 2mm wide...is any reason I have to worry about this case and what to do and to observed..thank u

1.the treatment depends where obstruction lies and its acute or chronic .
2.small daily dose of antibiotic syrup to prevent urinary tract infections .
3.Acute obstruction of the upper urinary tract is usually treated by the insertion of a nephrostomy tube.
4.Chronic upper urinary tract obstruction is treated by the insertion of a pyeloplasty .
5. your baby may need an operation at some time during childhood.
what are the causes of pelvic renal dilataion?
1.In most cases, there is no underlying problem , it may be a temporary finding when the baby’s bladder is full.
2.pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction.
3.pelvi-ureteric junction blockage.
4.structural abnormalities could be caused by injury, surgery, or radiation therapy.
what are the symptoms and signs of pelvic renal dilatation?
1.intense pain in the flank area
2.attacks of a dull discomfort or no pain.
3.Nausea and vomiting.
4.blood or pus in the urine
5.high fever .
what are the investigation?
1.full clinical assessment in nearest medical center.
2.c.b.c
3.urine analysis.
4.ultrasound
5.intravenous urogram
