How can Acne be treated?

1. wash your face 3 times daily with a gentle cleanser
2. avoid any irrititants that are known to trigger your acne like some cosmetic products and some kinds of food
3. apply topical antibiotics like Benzamycin daily in the morning
4. apply topical retinoid drugs like Differin daily in the evening
5. use Dapsone 5 percent gel twice daily in case of inflammatory acne
6. oral antibiotics like Doxycycline in case of moderate to severe acne
7. if oral antibiotics fail, using Aldactone may be helpful
8. if your acne doesn't respond to any treatment, your dermatologist may prescribe Isotretinoin which is a powerful drug used in severe cases only and needs close monitoring
9. chemical peeling by a dermatologist
10. laser therapy

Causes of Acne:

1. oily skin
2. hormonal imbalance
3. bacteria
4. clogged hair follicles
5. some medications like oral contraceptives

Advice:

1. visit a dermatologist as prescribing the best treatment depends on your age, skin type and acne's severity
2. don't use medications if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
3. treating acne takes time and you may have to use the drug for 4-8 weeks to see the results and it may take months
4. sun protection by using a free-oil sunscreen is important
5. avoid touching and picking acne to avoid inflammation and scarring
