Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) is also known as serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT).
It is one of the test that reflect liver function
The enzyme aspartate aminotransferase (AST) is also known as serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT)
It is one of the test that reflect liver function
Normal levels of AST and ALT may slightly vary depending on the individual laboratory's reference values. Typically the range for normal AST is reported between 10 to 40 units per liter and ALT between 7 to 56 units per liter.
If you do not have any of the menitoned symptoms, please just visit the doctor to do Ultrasound of abdomen and repeat the ALT and AST tests after 2 months.

What is the normal range of ALT and AST:

What are the causes of high ALT, AST:
- viral liver infections,
- alcohol abuse,
- cirrhosis (from any chronic causes),
- iron overload
- shock
- heart failure.
What are the symptoms of liver disease:
- nausea and vomiting
- shortness of breath,
- excessive bruising or bleeding, and
- leg swelling.
- jaundice (yellowing of the skin),
- fatigue,
- weakness,
Regarding your question:
